Shatabhisha is the 24th Nakshatra/Star of Zodiac ruled by shadowy planet Rahu, often known as The Veiling Star ’’. Shatabhisha meansHundred Physicians ’’, “ Hundred Medicines ’’ or “ Hundred Healers ’’. Its alternative name is “ShataTaraka”, which translates into “ possessing a Hundred Stars ”. Shatabhisha is ruled by Varuna, the God of the cosmic waters. This nakshatra is about healing the human condition spiritually and physically. Shatabhisha nakshatra comes under the domain of Saturn and ruled by Rahu. These two planets are malefic in nature which makes it difficult combination. This Nakshatra is related with secrets and ability to conceal secrets.  Both Rahu and Saturn are concerned with changing the purpose of our life to give us the final answers and Rahu does this on an internal level ( as rahu is hidden entity so it gives sudden thoughts, mood conflicts ) while Saturn works on the external level. As its name suggest hundred physician means the person suffer some health or emotional turmoil in life that no doctor able to cure it, ultimately the person itself gain so much of knowledge about medicine that they themselves able to cure itself their problems. Star Lord:  Rahu

Ruling Deity: Varuna, The God of cosmic waters

The symbol of Shatabhisha Nakshatra is a circle, which symbolizes the restrictions or limiting oneself within the boundaries. At the same time it gives some protection to the natives from the outside world in terms of diseases or from enemies. There is a inherent nature with these individuals not to go beyond these restrictions. Shatabhisha individuals are dominated by secretive and deceptive  characteristics. Sometimes they become too defensive in their approach. The other negative trait of these people is that they are unpredictable and reckless and will become difficult to trust easily. Sometimes there will be sudden outburst of temperament and at such times it will become difficult to calm them. Another problem with them is that they get addicted very easily. Since Moon is placed in Rahu Nakshatra and Saturn’s rashi, they are vulnerable to the emotional disturbances. Moreover, as an airy sign, the imagination can go wild and turbulent.

Secrecy is one quality which immediately separates Shatabhisha from other Nakshatras. Shatabhisha natives are not always very ready to share hidden secrets they have discovered and tries to hide them just like ocean covers up many a treasure. It is one of main nakshatras presiding over media in all its forms, especially electronic media. In today’s world, media as we know, functions on twin principles of secrecy and deception. People “running the show” obviously know about truth regarding actual seat of power, whilst all that masses get is a smokescreen.

Shatabhisha’s essential nature is to view everything with suspicion. Natives under influence of its energy usually take their time to get accustomed to new things, thoughts, places and people. Their suspicious nature often makes them be on guard, thus making them capable of shielding themselves from harm. These natives are generally solitary, eccentric, reclusive and introverted. Plus side to this aspect is that its reclusivity gives it capacity to be alone. Being alone gives rise to contemplation, which in turn produces wisdom and enlightenment. In negative cases this seclusion can only translate into pessimism and self-pity. They often blurt out harsh truths at most inopportune moments. This is in fact one of major problems Shatabhisha natives face in climbing ladder of success, especially material success. Refinement and sensitivity is not their forte.

Kumbha, as we know, is an Electric Rashi. This Nakshatra embodies electricity in all its different forms. Shatabhisha is pinnacle of Rahu’s energy. Rahu is that force that attempts to break down all boundaries of race, age, status, nationality and religion, to usher in a feeling of oneness of humanity, which in a sense embodies spirit of Kumbha. Functioning through its lower aspect, it relays aspect of Rahu, which is responsible for consumption and manufacturing of all types of alcohol, intoxicants and drugs. All significations of Rahu dealing with poisonous chemicals and substances also fall under domain of this nakshatra.

According to Varahamihira, “those with Chandra in Shatabhisha are truthful but harsh and cruel in their speech. They are always eager to conquer their enemies and suffer much grief in isolation. They have independence of thought and action, but are often seen acting without thought.”
